My Food & Wine Spots in Paris 10th: Le Verre Volé

The world is full of things to explore, they say. Yet I know nothing better than returning to Paris and Le Verre Volé where delicious food and natural wines never fail to make me smile.

Located on lively Rue de Lancry in the heart of Paris 10th, Le Verre Volé never lets you down. This unpretentious bistro serves lovingly prepared, simple yet inventive food and classics with a twist. Ribs, boudin noir, lentils de Puy… you name it! And, as much as I love Italy, I must admit this is the place with the best tomato bruschetta I’ve ever had.

The dishes are generous and colourful, the space feels compact and lively – partly because the kitchen is in the middle of the space. All wines by the glass are written on the blackboard: the selection is nice and offers great variation. However, I always let the boys take care of wine pairings. They really know their stuff.

Like many popular places in Paris 10th (and 11th, another favourite arrondissement), Le Verre Volé gets crowded, so make sure to be there in time or secure your spot by booking. That’s why I usually turn up about 15 minutes before they open and wait outside.

Despite its location in hip bobo neighbourhood, Le Verre Volé has kept its feet on the ground, staying true to authentic food and atmosphere. What’s best, everything is wallet-friendly.

One of the most memorable dishes: tori kara-age (chicken), poached egg and pimientos de padrón.

On summer evenings, I love popping into Le Verre Volé before joining the wine-sipping locals on the banks of Canal Saint-Martin. From the shelves filled with beautiful natural wines from across France to take away, you also find divine grower champagnes in magnum size.

Seafood on Rue de Lancry

Having fallen for Le Verre Volé a few years ago, I also recommend the tiny seafood restaurant, Verre Volé sur Mer (now called Restaurant Sur Mer). The street is the same, the atmosphere is just as laid-back. Come early, grab a seat at the comptoir and enjoy the freshest flavours!

Above all, seafood lovers couldn’t be happier: the menu that includes fish and shellfish from oysters to squid, razor clams and shrimps, sashimi to ceviche. Sur Mer is all about super fresh, nicely seasoned dishes in a colourful setting. What else does a Paris lover need?
